Authentic Days
What did you do today? Was today an authentic day?
An authentic day is a day that fully aligns with your values and goals. It is a day that reaches beyond the superficial and grabs on to the essential. It is a day that spins around under the expansive sky and yells “I’m real.”
That’s what an authentic day is. But what is it not? It is not a perfect day. It is not a day with no mistakes. “Perfect” days would be the opposite of genuine; reality is messy. When I mess up, I acknowledge it, do what I can to fix it, learn from it, and move on. Dwelling on the past does not do anyone any good.
Strings of authentic days weave themselves into authentic weeks, months, years, and eventually, your entire life. An authentic life is what I strive for every day.
My Mission
That brings me to why I’m starting this blog. I think this world is becoming increasingly synthetic. My hope is that by sharing my authentic life and being what I am, I can inspire others to live real. To live authenticus. According to the Oxford Latin Dictionary, authenticus means “original, genuine, authentic.” “That comes from the author.” I cannot think of a better description of my ideal life. Why be someone else when you can be you?
Don’t apologize for the things that make you who are. Don’t let other’s opinions dictate your own opinion of yourself. You are beautiful and can make a positive impact on this world. Let your guard down and live authentically. Henry David Thoreau said, “We are constantly invited to be what we are.”
So go and be what you are.
